Great Curves and Contours Can Be Yours Again with a Body Lift
For many people, one of the biggest obstacles to achieving a fitter-looking and more toned body is excess skin around the tummy, thighs, upper arms, back, and hips. These regions of drooping skin do not respond to exercise and diet. You may be in good health and have a healthy lifestyle but still find it impossible to eliminate excess skin. With a body lift, you can target multiple areas for skin tightening and stubborn fat elimination.
The Body Lift: A Combination Procedure
A body lift involves multiple procedures. Because of this, it is often performed in more than one sitting spread out over many weeks.
A body lift may include a tummy tuck, where the loose skin is tightened by removing excess skin, the volume is reduced by removing excess fat, and the drooping muscles are toned by tightening them. A tummy tuck is one of the most common body lift procedures.
A body lift can also address the thighs. Many people are disturbed by flabby thighs that prevent them from wearing shorts and other types of clothing. With a thigh lift, the muscles are toned, loose skin is removed, and excess fat is also eliminated.
A body lift may be needed after a patient has lost a lot of weight. Due to rapid weight loss, there might be loose folds of skin on your body or some residual fat on the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks. A body lift can address these issues, putting the finishing touches on your new slimmer look.
What to Expect During the Surgical Session
A body lift is usually performed under general anesthesia. Depending on the plastic surgeon’s assessment, you might need to stay overnight at the hospital or return home immediately following the surgery. Those who undergo the body lift must have a person drive them home and stay overnight with them.
Typically, body lift procedures involve a large incision around the hips. There are different techniques used to perform the tummy tuck aspect of the surgery. Some types of tummy tuck procedures involve placing sutures in the deeper levels of the skin after surgery to offer a stronger closure, prevent opening of sutures and pressure on the incision. Also, deeper sutures can make post-surgical marks less noticeable.
Eligibility for This Option
In order to undergo a body lift, you will need to be in a reasonably good state of health. You should not be very overweight, and you’ll need to maintain a stable weight for a few months before you can consider the procedure. Patients are asked to stop smoking and consuming supplements and certain medications before surgery.
After the surgery, you are advised to take things easy and not participate in difficult labor-intensive activities for a few weeks at the least. You will also need a few weeks for recovery, so you’ll need to take time off of work. Patients are required to wear a compression bandage to reduce swelling. Pain can be managed through medications prescribed by your surgeon.
