Choosing the Right Breast Implant for Your Body
Breast augmentation is a very popular procedure that can provide wonderful results for numerous women. However, it’s not a surgery that you should rush into without some planning and consideration. For example, you’ll need to select the right breast implants for your body. So, which factors do you need to consider when choosing your implants?
Type of Breast Implant
One important thing you’ll need to decide is which type of breast implant you want to use for your surgery. At the Plastic Surgery Institute of Washington, there are two main types of breast implants that we offer:
- Silicone Implants: Silicone breast implants are made of a viscous silicone gel surrounded by a silicone shell. Silicone implants are known for looking and feeling very natural, and there are several different types to choose from. For example, there are “gummy bear” breast implants, which are teardrop-shaped and hold their form even if the shell breaks. Women must be at least 22 years old to receive silicone breast implants.
- Saline Implants: Saline breast implants also feature a silicone shell, but instead of silicone gel, they’re filled with sterile saltwater. With saline implants, the shells aren’t actually filled up until after they’ve been inserted into your body. Typically, saline implants are more customizable and feel firmer than silicone implants, but they may not look or feel as natural. These implants are available to all women over the age of 18.
Size of Breast Implants
Before your breast augmentation, you’ll also need to determine what size of implants you prefer. The sizes of implants are measured by cubic centimeter (cc) volume rather than cup sizes, and they typically range from 125 cc to 1200 cc. For every cup size you want to go up, you’ll need to add about 250 cc to your implants.
To decide what size you want to go with, you’ll want to consider several variables, such as your frame, the current size of your breasts, and your desired look. During your consultation, your plastic surgeon will work with you to help you determine the ideal size for your implants.
What is the Takeaway?
Choosing the right breast implants for your body doesn’t need to be intimidating or complicated. If you take the time to consider your options and listen to your surgeon’s expert advice at the Plastic Surgery Institute of Washington, you’ll be able to choose the perfect implants for your body and your aesthetic goals.
